The reception was at Heysham Golf Club where we took some group shots but mainly took lots of shots of guests letting their hair down, here are just a few photos from the day.

Jade and Christian were extremely adventurous and wanted to get some photographs at the nearby Cromwell Bridge, which is a crumbling bridge but was certainly worth the effort with the images we captured.

Dave and I had a fabulous day, a brilliant couple fun guests and great food! It was also great to work with Kathryn Berry Films a great videographer who we were able to work with perfectly!

The weather was perfect for photography not too bright or hot, but warm enough for all the guests to socialise in the gorgeous grounds of the venue, which enabled us to get lots of candid shots of the guests enjoying the day, it also made photographing the happy couple easy, as no harsh shadows or squinting eyes to worry about.

After the ceremony the couple wanted to get some shots at the remains of St Patricks Chapel which overlooks Morecambe Bay, whilst the weather was definitely blustery we managed to get some shots with a great back drop. We love shooting weddings with different backdrops makes for more interesting photographs.

We then headed to The Longlands Hotel in Carnforth for the wedding reception, I have done lots of weddings at The Longlands over the years, and it was quite sad that this was going to be the last wedding to be held at The Longlands, as they are redeveloping it and focusing their business on different areas, but I have lots of great memories of weddings here, and this was no exception!

We took photos by the canal and got some great candid shots of guests enjoying the day!! Meg and Conaill had booked me pre-covid (can you remember that time?) and had been due to have a wedding with over 100 guests, but so determined were they to go ahead with the wedding that they stripped it right back to about 20 guests, but I'm sure they had a fabulous day, here are a few pics from the day.

 

If you do have a wedding booked with me and due to Covid-19 restrictions are not able to have the wedding of your dreams or a wedding at all, please don't worry in terms of your photography. I will do my upmost to transfer your booking to a new date, at no additional cost to yourselves. However if I do already have a booking on your new date there a couple of options.

I work with a couple of photographers whom I am confident can supply you with a great service, that I have worked with on numerous weddings, whom I would contact for you to see if they were available and could photograph your wedding. Whilst they may not have my sparkling wit, they are excellent photographers and would provide you with an excellent service. I would encourage them to charge you the same as we had agreed and I would transfer your deposit across to them. If they were free and you were keen I would put you directly in touch with them.

If for whatever reason they were not available or you wanted to source your own photographer then as this is no fault of yours and we could not plan on Covid, I would give you  full refund.

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by a couple who had, had to cancel their wedding twice due to lockdown, and they were keen to get married as soon as lockdown was lifted regardless of the restrictions, this was on the Wednesday and the wedding was to be on that Saturday, and they just wanted the wedding ceremony covering and a few shots afterwards. That was perfect for me as I had ANOTHER free Saturday, and it was great to get the cameras out again.

The wedding was to be at St Thomas's in Lancaster, so I arrived at the venue promptly half an hour before the ceremony, only to find a padlock on the Church gates, panic sets in had I got the right church? Luckily a gentleman in a suit turns up who advised that they could only the gates about 15 minutes before the ceremony due to the restrictions! They were only allowed 30 guests and they soon started to arrive. I normally take shots of the wedding rings prior to the ceremony, but again due to the restrictions I didn't think that this was an option as i would have to touch the rings!!

Anyway the Vicar was brilliant and allowed me to do as I pleased in terms of moving around the church for the ceremony, obviously observing social distancing, all the guests were spread around the church within their own social bubbles, they weren't allowed to sing along with any of the hymns/songs instead two very talented singers lead the celebrations from the front of the church.

After the ceremony we took some shots outside the church trying to observe social distancing, but it is difficult and you have to accept that you maybe cannot get all the normal shots that you would get, so you have to be creative. Hopefully as the weeks pass, and corona virus cases dwindle we may be able to get back to normal, that saying this was a lovely wedding and and the couple had the people closest to share it with them, and I think we got some great shots, that hopefully they will look upon with fondness in years to come.

They wanted to update the images for their website and all the online booking sites that they appear on. The day I shot the hotel was really, really bright which is quite a rare thing for this time of year in Lancashire, so that caused us a few issues with harsh shadows and glare coming through the windows, but here are a few of the images from the shoot.

It is a personal choice, but I think it could be an opportunity lost if you don't get these shots taken as I normally work with a second photographer, we can cover both the bride and grooms preparation, so they get to see exactly how the other was prior to their Big Day. We never get there too early normally 1.5 to 2 hours prior to the ceremony so most of the brides (and maybe the grooms) hair and make up is done we just capture the finishing touches, but we also have time to shoot details such as the dress, flowers, rings, the groom struggling with his tie and cufflinks!!

Anyway back to the wedding of Rebecca and Dan at The Best Western Glendower Hotel in Lytham St Annes, I was booked to photograph this wedding as the couple came to an Open Evening that I attend on the last Wednesday of every month at The Glendower. We discussed exactly what they wanted and it was clear that the photography was going to be a major part of the day, which is great for a photographer!

They also mentioned that they would be interested in a stop motion film and was this something I could do. Whilst I would be taking the vast majority of the still photo's I would get my second photographer David to do the stop motion, but that meant having to get another photographer to be the second photographer. So a quick email to a photographer I had worked with before and we were all set. 

The weather forecast was not great in fact it was that windy, that the annual Kite Festival had to be cancelled (go figure)! However with umbrellas in hand we managed to get out and brave the elements to get some lovely shots. We were there for the whole day covering wedding prep, the ceremony, speeches, 1st dance and lots of shots in between. It just goes to show that if the weather isn't ideal, don't let it spoil your day as your photographer will still get some great shots!

Anyway I'm going off on a bit of a tangent here, but I was contacted by Best Western Glendower Hotel in Lytham St Annes contacted me to see if Lancashire and Lakeland Bride Magazine could do a feature on one of the weddings I had shot their last year.

This was a great wedding of Ramdas Anna, we had a glorious weather and managed to get pictures in the dunes just in front of the hotel, so I sent them a link to the photos, and a few weeks later on the newsstand was great article on the wedding featuring my photos, like I said it's great to see your photos in print!

We managed to get out into the dunes which always makes for great shots, but isn't always possible if the wind picks up, but this couple and their guests were really keen to go that extra mile to get some great shots. We also had a quick walk to Ashton Gardens which is just behind The Glendower to get some lovely shots with a different backdrop. Oh and I must mention the cake, the couple love wood and woodcraft, so they had a cake made in the guise of 3 wooden logs, which was incredible!

The whole wedding was at the hotel, which makes it slightly less stressful for the photographer, but I went to the couples house to photograph the bridal preparations and Dave my second photographer on the day went to spend time with the boys! Whilst the hours before the wedding can sometimes be the most stressful, you can also get some great natural shots, and this couple didn't seem at all nervous about their forthcoming nuptials.

We photographed the whole day from the service, to the speeches, to the garden games right through to 1st dance and beyond, here are just a few shots from the day!

I always enjoy photographing weddings at The Longlands, not only are the staff so friendly and helpful, but there are so many locations to grab great shots, there is the Marina, the patio garden, the venue itself and the nearby canal (although we didn't go down there this time).

The whole wedding was at the Longlands, which makes the photographers job easier, as we do not have to stress rushing between locations. They both had cottages to get ready in, so I headed for Jane's, and David, my second photographer went and spent some time with Stuart before the wedding service.

The wedding service was in The Lapwing Suite, and we photographed the whole service from two different angles. Jane was keen to avoid too many posed/cheesy shots so the vast majority of the time we are in the background just capturing natural shots of the bride and groom and their guests enjoying themselves throughout the day.

There certainly was plenty to photograph on the day as the bride and groom had though of everything in terms of entertaining their guests, they had a singer during the day, a gin bar, singing waiters, Stuart Michaels singing and DJ'ing in the evening, a cartoonist and photobooth, so we were kept busy all day. Here are just few snaps from the day.

I had already photographed the couple at Williamson's Park for an engagement shoot, where we had the most awful weather, so I was so pleased that we had perhaps the hottest day of the year so far on Saturday!

Both Marisa and Lewis got ready at Lancaster House Hotel, so we headed up there to get some wedding prep shots, before the wedding ceremony which was at The Free Methodist Church in Lancaster. This was my first time at this church, and I've got to say it was a great service, (an hour flew by) and from a photography perspective it was ideal as the lighting was perfect, sometimes in churches you really struggle and have to push your cameras to the limit due to how dark they are, but this church was fine.

As Marisa was from Glasgow the groom had arranged a surprise, a piper for them to leave the church too, and then they headed up to Forrest Hills in a vintage Rolls Royce.

As always the majority of the shots we take are natural and unposed, but I do spend about 20 minutes with the Bride and Groom going to different spots around the venue to get some great couple shots, which Forrest Hills lends itself too.

I always say to couples not to worry about the weather in terms of your wedding photographs, as the photographs will reflect your wedding, and whilst we would all prefer a fine and sunny day, a decent wedding photographer will always get great photographs whatever the weather. Like I said we got lucky on Saturday, and whilst it was still a few degrees colder than the seasonal average, we were able to get guests and the bridal party out to get photographs, which it would have been a shame if we couldn't as Singleton Lodge has such great grounds as backdrops (especially the Alpacas!).

Jess and Ash were are such a laid back couple which makes it so easy for the photographer, both sets of bridesmaids, were great fun and I think this comes across in all the photos.

Documentary Wedding photographer Lancashire

It is worth bearing in mind if you are booking a winter wedding that the earlier you have it, the better chance you will have of getting some natural light shots, as the sunsets quickly, and it does become a bit of a battle and a rush for the photographer to get them. On Saturday we just about managed it, we got a large group shot of everyone from the balcony shooting down on to the courtyard, and we took the group shots in front of the memorial.

The whole was at the Memorial including the reception, which was the first time I had experienced that, and the couple also had exclusive access to the Butterfly House for a limited time, this enabled us to get some sheltered shots of the bride and groom, before we all returned to the memorial for the reception, where we were able to capture some great candid moments.

It was a fabulous day and we managed to get some lovely natural shots of Jen and Nick, both in The Clifton Arms itself and on the green and promenade in front of the hotel. I worked with a second photographer David, enabling us to get shots from different angles.

The Hotel is situated on the seafront overlooking Morecambe Bay, apart from being a fantastic building, there is a lovely park opposite the hotel and you can easily venture onto the seafront to get some great shots of the bride and groom.

The building is amazing, it has old fashioned feel about it, but this adds to its charm, with a great staircase and a stunning ballroom, a great place to get some stunning shots.

I've got to say the staff at The North Euston were absolutely amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them in helping us as photographers get the best shots possible for the happy couple, and i look forward to coming back to photograph another couple's wedding.

Ribby is a great venue for wedding photography, especially when the weather is great as their are so many areas that make a great backdrop for shots. Alex got ready in one of the cottages near the Marina, which was great to get some wedding prep shots, as there is plenty of room and light. The groom meanwhile was getting his "Dutch Courage" at the local Ex Serviceman Club, so I called in there for a couple of shots (photos)!

The service was at Christ Church in Carnforth, again I have done weddings here previously, and it is a lovely church, and on Saturday it was absolute fine for natural light, as it was a gorgeous outside at the time of the service.

Whilst we did take a number of group shots we got a lot of natural shots especial of the couples children, which I think are some of the best of the day.

The bride the previous week had done the hair for a bride whose wedding I also shot, she was really concerned about the weather, as it was quite dull and wet that week, but like I say to all brides you shouldn't worry about the weather, whilst we would all love a wonderful sunny day, a good photographer will get you you fabulous images whatever the weather, and it will reflect the day, anyway she had no need to worry as it was a gloriously sunny day, in fact we could've done with a few more clouds, as we had to be careful to avoid squints and harsh shadows.

The White Church is an amazing building http://bit.ly/2sqaMVT perfect for a backdrop for a wedding, the bride and groom were then chauffered by Dan Waller Cars https://www.facebook.com/DanWallerCars/ from the Church to King Edward VII School http://www.arnoldkeqms.com/ which was the grooms school, and again was a great backdrop for a couple of shots, before heading to Best Western Plus Glendower Hotel http://www.glendowerhotel.co.uk/ for the wedding reception. I always enjoy weddings at The Glendower as apart from it being in a great location opposite the Sand Dunes and other great spots for photographs, the hotel, which has recently been renovated is stunning, and the staff are always so helpful, which for a photographer is great, as they don't put you under pressure to rush things, they just want to ensure everything runs as the bride and groom had envisaged.

The bride loves everything Disney, and as such had a Minnie Mouse theme for her wedding, with red and black highly visible and a Mickey and Minnie wedding cake, and even her bouquet was made up with silk flowers to mimic Minnie Mouse!

Such a great wedding, now back to editing the pics!!

The beauty of Singleton Lodge is that it has great grounds with areas of shade, it has a huge tree (not sure what species) at the front of the hotel, which gives great cover from rain and harsh sunlight, so we were able to get shots under this when we did have some showers.

As I said Singleton Lodge has great grounds, apart from "the tree", it has a fantastic old red brick wall which I think gives an excellent backdrop, and of course it has a field of Alpacas, which are the perfect background!

The whole wedding was at the hotel, so I photographed the wedding prep right through to speeches. We also managed to venture onto the sand dunes right opposite the hotel, and got some gorgeous snaps of the wedding party. I also went with the bride and groom to Ashton Gardens http://www.fylde.gov.uk/resident/gardens/ashtongardens/ which is very close to the hotel to get some shots with a different backdrop.

As well as Coast, the Glendower has been going through an extensive programme of updating their rooms, so I was also charged with getting some images to reflect how great these rooms are, just like the new Coast, the rooms are so modern. The shoot was great fun, as all the shots were natural/candid which is the style of photography I love to take, I also had the added bonus of getting to eat a three course meal, after of course I had photographed it for the article! The sticky toffee pudding is awesome!!!

The couple got married at Lancaster Registry Office the day before, and I was asked to come along to the celebration they had for family and friends the following day at The Gregson.

The room was packed, which was a bit of a challenge, as I was asked to get lots of candids throughout the evening. The groom was in a folk band whom played during the evening, here are a few snaps that captured the atmosphere of the night.

I jumped in the car and drove straight to the Midland, where I met with the journalist, but no John McGuiness! John had forgotten he had a date with the magazine, and had gone on his Enduro bike off road into the Lakes.

Fast forward 2 hours and the journo gets an apologetic text from John, inviting us up to his new pad on the outskirts of Lancaster, but all we were given was a postcode, which lead us to a dirt track, and having no phone signal we had to take a chance that this was the right dirt track...BIG MISTAKE!

The dirt track lead nowhere, so we took the decision to turn around, 45 minutes later we were getting towed out of the muddiest field by a very kind farmer called Tim, who assured us it happens all the time, and that John's new pad was just on the main road 50 metres further down!!!

Anyway "A Lunch With John McGuiness" became a "Bottle of Bud with John McGuiness". It was fascinating to listen to John talk candidly about his racing experiences, oh and we got some good shots of John chatting to the journalist.

It was a bit of an adventure but good fun and the results can be seen in the April Edition of Motorsport Magazine see below.

Thankfully the couple had chosen an early time for the service 1.00pm so we did not have to worry about the light, and it was dry, if not a bit breezy December afternoon.

The couple had chosen a black and white theme in keeping with New Years Eve. We decided to take most of the shots at the Longlands, taking a large group shot straight away from a guests bedroom window, this allowed everyone who was not gong to be in any further photographs to get warm and head to the bar!

We then took the wedding party group shots, before heading over to the marina to get some shots of the happy couple. This was a great wedding to round off a fantastic year for weddings, can't wait for my 2017 season to start!!!

We take a couple of studio lights and have been photographing party goers in front of the fabulous Christmas Tree at The Glendower. This saves us taking a backdrop of our own and creates a perfect Christmas scene. Light at this time of year can be an issue so I always advise bride and grooms getting married to bear this in mind if they are expecting natural light photographs. Obviously as a photographer we have contingency plans and will bring plenty of flashes to use both on camera and off, so it isn't  a major issue, but the resulting images will have a different look.

Ashton Memorial is such a great venue to photograph, both inside and also outside as a backdrop, and on a clear day you get a great view of Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland Hills.

After the service and afternoon tea at the memorial the wedding reception was at The Borough Lancaster.

So armed with the trusty 70-200mm f2.8L we went for a stroll and took a variety of shots against different backdrops, a church, a reddish bush, Morecambe Bay and some of the traditional fishermans cottages, before setting up a black backdrop, and using a single speedlite in a softbox got some contrasty shots which I really liked, here are a few from the session.

At this time of year it is always a bit of a worry in terms of the weather, but we were really lucky as the weather was great, and we managed to capture a lot of lovely natural light shots outside. When booking a wedding at this time of year, I always tell couples to bear in mind what time it goes dark, so to try and get the service for early afternoon, so that you are not chasing the light, and the photographer doesn't have to rush their shots. As I said earlier we were lucky and were able to get outside and get shots within the grounds of Ribby Hall. The wedding service was in the Woodland Suite, followed by a blessing by the family's vicar.

I have had numerous jobs through The Chamber membership, and it was great to be asked to photograph their annual Dinner and Casino evening at Lancaster House Hotel.

It was a great evening and met some new and interesting people, here are a few photo's from the evening. The confetti shot is a one take shot so i normally line the guests up in two rows for the bride and groom to walk through so the guests can let them have it! Whilst the shots of the bride and groom might not be the most flattering of the day as they often trying to dodge the confetti, I think it really highlights the fun and happiness of a wedding, so go on get the confetti in! Meters UK manufacture Gas, Electricity and Water meters in their factory in Morecambe, so they were looking for some high quality and consistent product photography. So I loaded my car with meters and headed to the studio in Preston (Cotton Studios where I do the portrait sessions).

The shoot was hard work but real fun, we photographed over 40 children (min 3 costume changes) during the day. All the children seemed to have a great time, and the shoot went really smoothly thanks to the Cotton team manage all the admin and Sue from dance talent and her team assisting with poses for the dancers and doing super quick costume changes.

The Groom's Speech

I was asked to photograph the wedding of Sally and Peter, who are moving up to Morecambe and fell in love with the Midland. This was an "intimate" wedding, 4 attendees including the Bride & Groom, which for a photographer is brilliant in terms of time constraints and having the full attention of the Bride and Groom, but it also limits the number of photographs you can get, so challenges your creativity!

Here are just a few shots I captured of the happy couple.

Ashton Memorial is a beautiful folly built in the early 20th century, which is a fantastic venue both to have a wedding and photograph a wedding, as you can have the memorial as a backdrop, but also Morecambe Bay on a clear day.

The wedding was at 2.00pm which again is a great time to have a wedding in summer, as the sun usually is not at it's brightest so you don't have to contend with harsh shadows and squinting eyes.

We decided to get the group shots at the memorial, we took one of the whole wedding party from the balcony on the memorial, and took smaller groups around the memorial itself.

I then took some shots of the bride and groom, before we headed up to the Longlands Hotel in Carnforth for the wedding reception, where I carried on taking candid shots throughout the day and up until first dance.

Decided I needed to update my "About" page photo, as my old photo was bit "stiff"! Do I go for a studio portrait? A moody black and white? Or the old fav holding a camera? Nah, I decided to get my talented niece to take a couple of frames with my best pal Stanley the Goldendoodle, as when I'm not at a wedding or taking portraits, this fluffy lad is normally by my side. So whilst these are the only photos on my website that aren't mine (Credit to Emily Knight) I love them!!!

There was lots of tears and laughter from both the bride and groom, which we love as photographers, and there was a string quartet to keep everyone entertained both during and after the ceremony.

The whole wedding was in the Garden Rooms which enable the wedding party to use the gardens, which as it was a lovely day made it so much easier to get the group shots the couple wanted.

As my studio used to be at Ribby Hall Village I know a fair few places around the village to get some lovely shots of the happy couple.

The wind was really strong so well done to all that competed and completed the challenge, here are a few photos from a fantastically well organised and supported event.

During a wedding service I never use a flash as I believe it to be distracting, so your push your camera to the limit and do end up with some grainier pictures, which isn't a major issue as often this adds to the effect.

So we took a few shots in Dalton Square in front of the imposing statue of Queen Victoria, before the service, and we then went up to Williamson's Park, where the couple and I just walked around the park looking for interesting areas to take some snaps. We were really fortunate the weather and it enabled us to get some great shots.

We then headed off to The Storey Institute for the wedding reception. This is another little gem for Wedding Photography Lancaster, as it is so light and has such character. It wouldn't matter too much if the weather was typical Lancashire, as there is so much natural light in the building, but it has the added treat of the tasting garden, which from the road is completely hidden, but it is a fantastic space to grab some great images.
