I'm not sure if this was the last wedding of the summer season or first of the winter, but I was lucky enough to photograph the wedding of Katie and Kevin, last Saturday.
The wedding service was at Morecambe Parish Church, before heading through to Lancaster Golf Club for the reception. Lancaster Golf Club is a great venue to photograph a wedding, with plenty of external areas to get some great shots. However at this time of year we were chasing the light, and we really needed to get most of the shots done before the wedding breakfast, as inside the club it is pretty dark, with dark wood panelling, and you are really forced to use flash, which at weddings I try to keep to a minimum.
This is however worth considering when booking a winter wedding, what time you book the service and then what time you sit down for your wedding breakfast, as most photographers will prefer to work with natural light. That said any decent photographer will find ways and means of getting you great shots, whatever the light or weather.
We used the courtyard to the rear of the golf club for most of the photographs, and the staff at Lancaster Golf Club, were extremely helpful in showing me some hidden areas which were great to use to get some shots of the bride and groom.
